It's hardly shocking that Angelina Jolie's directorial debut would be a dark, somber film focusing on "the harsh realities of wartime violence and crimes including using women as human shields, and how war affects love." (Source) She was never going to direct a whimsical romantic comedy - she used to wear a vile of her lover's blood around her neck; I think the opportunity for romantic comedy has long since been passed.
That said - she's good at what she does. Check out the trailer. The Land of Milk and Honey will be released on December 23. Will I see it? No. Will it be a hit come award season? Most likely.
